SocialShrink was born out of a simple frustration: every image optimizer out there either uploaded your files to a remote server, capped file sizes, charged a monthly subscription, or slapped a watermark on your photos. None of them truly respected your time or your privacy.

We built SocialShrink to be different — and to stay that way.

A Tool That Puts Privacy First

Every image you process in SocialShrink stays entirely on your device. There are no uploads, no servers ever receive your files, and no account is required. Compression happens inside your browser using modern web APIs — the same technology used by professional desktop software like Photoshop's Export engine.

This means your personal photos, client work, or branded content never leaves your control. Close the browser tab and everything disappears. We only store a handful of anonymous preferences locally (like your last quality setting) to improve your workflow — nothing that could ever identify you.

Modern Compression Technology

SocialShrink supports three output formats: JPEG, WebP, and AVIF. WebP typically delivers 25–35% smaller files than JPEG at equivalent visual quality. AVIF can go even further — up to 50% smaller — and is now natively supported by all major browsers and social platforms.

Our engine also includes a smart quality guard: if the output file turns out larger than the original (which can happen with highly-compressed JPEGs or indexed PNGs), the tool automatically retries with a lower quality setting to ensure you always get a smaller result.

Who Is Behind SocialShrink?

SocialShrink is an independent project by a developer who creates free tools for content creators and small businesses. It is not backed by any corporation and does not have venture capital funding. It is free to use and sustained by non-intrusive advertising shown only after you explicitly consent to it.

We believe good tools should not need to compromise user privacy to be financially sustainable.
